Method 1: Strikethrough text using Ribbon
This is the most common method to strikethrough text in Ms Word. Use the following steps to strikethrough text.
- Select the text you want to strikethrough.
- Navigate to the “Home” tab and click “Strikethrough” icon in the Font group. It resembles the letter ‘ab’ with a line through it.
Method 2: Right-Click Context Menu
- Select the text you want to strikethrough.
- Right-Click on the Text to open a context menu and choose Font.
- In the Font dialog box, check the “Strikethrough” option, then click “OK.”
Method 3: Keyboard Shortcut (Windows & Mac)
- Select the Text that you need to strikethrough.
- Keyboard shortcut are as follows
- Ms Word (Windows): Press ‘Alt, H, 4’ keys one after other in succession.
- Ms Word (Mac): the shortcut keys are “Command+Shift+X”
Method 4: Create custom shortcut to strikethrough
In Ms Word, you can custom create shortcut for any command including strikethrough. Use the following steps to custom create shortcut for strikethrough.
- Go to File > Options (Windows) or “Word” > “Preferences” (macOS) to open Word Options/Preferences respectively.
- In tab “Customize Ribbon” click Customize beside Keyboard shortcuts.
- Under Categories, select Home Tab and Under Commands, select Strikethrough.
- In the Press new shortcut key box, press the key combination you want to use for strikethrough. For example, you can press “Alt+Shift+S”
- Click Assign to assign the shortcut key to strikethrough.
- Click Close to close the dialog box.
Method 5: Add strikethrough to quick access toolbar
If you use strikethrough option quite regularly, then adding it to quick access tab could be a time saver. After this, you can access strikethrough button from quick access area from any tab. Steps to add strikethrough button in quick access are as follows:
- Locate the Font section in the Home tab in the Ribbon.
- Right-click on the Strikethrough button (the one with an ab and a line across it).
- Select Add to Quick Access Toolbar from the drop-down menu.
- The Strikethrough button will appear on the top-left corner of your window below the ribbon.
You can use it to apply or remove strikethrough to any text by selecting it and clicking the button.
